Why do you ask for my real name to apply for an account?

We ask for your real name for a couple of different reasons:

• If we expect elected officials to be accountable for their words, we should be held accountable for ours, too.
• This website is for serious discussion. Having people identify themselves will deter name calling, flame wars, and other unproductive discourse.
