Below I try to anticipate questions people might have about this site in question and answer format. If you have a question for me not answered below, ask it here.
Who runs this site?
This site is run by me, Steve Dondley, a Westfield resident and citizen. To avoid getting accused of having a "hidden" agenda, I'll state up front that I am a lifelong Democrat and I serve on the Westfield Democratic City Committee. I also have close ties to local unions as the Recording Secretary of the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO.
Is this site secretly backed by anyone else?
No. And it was no one's idea but my own.
Why did you set this site up?
As the banner says, this site was set up to hold represenative Don Humason more accountable. An email Represenative Humason sent to constituents about the state budget gave the initial impetus for launching this site. The email left out many complexities of the Massachusetts budget and blamed Democrats who "loved to spend other people's money" for bloating the budget. I thought his email was less than genuine and I felt the need to call Representative Humason out on it. That's when I decided to set this site up.
Why don't you get a life?
Actually, I work well over 80 hours each week running my business building websites for labor unions. But I've always been kind of civic-minded and I think it's important to hold politicians' feet to the fire. I also think this is an interesting project and I'm looking forward to see what comes out of it.
Why are you out to get Representative Humason? What axe do you have to grind?
I'm not out to get Mr. Humason and I have no axe to grind. If he does something I like, I will praise him for it. If he does something I don't like or if I disagree with him, I will explain why. You won't find any ad hominem attacks here. My hope is that this site will become a place where people can have civil conversations about serious issues.
I've never met Representative Humason. I'm sure he's a swell, likable guy. But this isn't about liking or hating Representative Humason, this is about letting Representative Humason know that there will be a common, public forum accessible to all where he might be asked to account for his positions and statements. That can only be a good and healthy thing for our democracy.
